My preference when researching a new artist is to find their own website. This was a complex and almost burdensom project when I started it in 2016, but over iterations has become a part of our normal cataloging process, and with a wealth of information now stored, has typically been a simple process for new albums added to our catalog. Not to pat ourselves on the back, but today I registered the 5,549th biography in our database, which are used on our website to provide biographies for the artists on the albums we list, and also to link the artists on an album to other in-stock albums that each musicians plays on. On Biographies and the Saga of Miha Gantar: As always we have plenty of samples on our site to check these and related albums, and as I explain next, a lot of information available on each to put each album into perspective. It's a lot of listening to beat the heat, and it's helped us to distract from the sun and sweat. The list is long, and I'm still trying to catch up and fully describe everything we've taken in lately, with another list of albums hot on the heels. Other labels include Cien Fuegos (Globe Unity Orchestra and Peter Brotzmann), Notice Recordings, FMR, Listen! Foundation (FSR), Evil Clown, Random Acoustics (Bauer / Graewe / Lindberg), &c &c.

Three new Intakt titles came in, from Gunter Baby Sommer and The Lucaciu 3 a duo between Ingrid Laubrock & Andy Milne and the Berlin Lisbeth Quartett. Tao forms released another excellent creative jazz album, this by the Kirk Knuffke Trio with Michael Bisio and Matthew Shipp.

For cassette collectors, Nat Baldwin's excellent Tripticks label has four new releases, all of which include download codes, the highlight being the quartet of Ali / Foster / Lopez / Wallace. A new set of Edition Wandelweiser albums was added just today, including albums from Eva-Maria Houben, and Michael Pisaro. We also added 11 new albums on the young Chicago label Amalgam run by drummer Bill Harris, in particular the trio of Jim Baker / Brandon Lopez / Bill Harris. Dempsey released a sublime duo between Joe McPhee & Evan Parker live at the 2003 Empty Bottle Festival (and the label also revived a 1982 Dredd Foole album, with members of Mission of Burma). The US distributor for Trost unleashed a large set of CDs & LPs that were delayed by global delivery issues and pandemic effects those include an amazing album from the trio of Brotzmann / Van Hove / Bennink from 1971, their first time playing in East Germany during the cold war a reissue of the 1999 Incus duo between Jim O'Rourke & Mats Gustafsson an intense and masterful duo between Akira Sakata & Takeo Moriyama the European touring conglomerate of two duos as Uruk (Duthoit & Hautzinger / Drake & Zerang). Drolo Ensemble, the Landaeus Trio, and an introduction to pianist/composer Miha Gantar. In particular Portugal's Clean Feed/Shhpuma labels have released a set of twelve new albums, including a new Angles album, Tarbaby with Oliver Lake, LAMIEE.

Since my last entry we have taken in collections of new releases from some of our favorite labels. There's no end of new records this summer, thankfully, and it feels like this season has seen an exceptionally prolific set of new releases to cool your ears to. The (extremely) hot days of summer are upon us in the Northern Hemisphere, and it's as good a time as any to hide in the coolest room available and play some great music to bide the time.
